ABOUT

A one-person operation, and we would rather say so.

Kaolane is a one-person operation in the Chicago area. One person, one product, working in small batches by hand.

We are at the beginning. The balm is not in stock yet — the formula is still being tested for how it behaves in heat, in cold, and on damp skin. When it passes, we will pour it, and the people on the list will hear first.

The product exists because of a specific gap. Almost every anti-chafe balm is built on beeswax with a botanical extract on top to signal that it is gentle, and both of those are common contact allergens. If you react to the gentle version, the category has very little to offer you. That seemed worth fixing.

Small batch is a description here, not a marketing position. It means limited stock and gaps between runs. What it buys is knowing exactly what went into every unit sold, and being able to change a formula the week we learn something rather than after a pallet clears.

If you want to know anything about how it is made or what is in it, ask. The answer will be specific.
